One does not find a self and indeed one comes to realise the selflessness of persons. One must then rest the mind evenly within the state in which the self was not found. When it is brought to rest through various means, conceptual tots cease and the mind relaxes in a non-conceptual state. When months and years pass by without noticing and one needs to be informed of the time by others, then one has achieved serenity. One maintains this state of by means of mindfulness and without succumbing to mental sinking, one draws forth the vitality of awareness. Thus one experiences serenity in this way; appearing while lacking  self-nature, luminous while lacking conceptuality, naked, unadulterated, brilliant, vivid.
